Janelloshea Badges

My love affair with badges, or buttons as they call it in America, began around June ’08, just about the time I discovered Etsy. There was something about those round little metal backs that fascinated me. I love talking about button badges. It was exciting conjuring new ideas to put on them, playing with the concept of the shape… It can make a statement, advertise, promote a cause, display your individualism, given as gifts, and can be worn on so many places!

I bought a button machine in July 08 and a heavy duty one in February 09 and thought: “Wouldn’t it be a great idea to have people wear badges displaying my art the world over?” I really enjoyed drawing all that went into these nifty little badges, and have since moved on to include notebooks, zines and possibly more geeky knick knacks.

In the Summer of ’09, instead of working the 3.5 month break from school, I became very inspired to make zines after zines. I realized when I made that astronomy booklet at 6 years old, I had no idea then that it was actually a zine. So essentially, you can say I loved making zines since I was 6! I don’t know why, but the whole idea of conceptualizing to drawing and writing and the designing and actual production – printing, compiling, taking pictures, fascinated me greatly. Every few days I keep having new ideas for this zine, that, and loved flipping through them after they are done to see what I’d developed back aches, sore arms for.

It is even sweeter, when I put them on sale and people respond favorably, allowing me to reach out to the world, strangers out there I’ve never met, and would possibly never. It makes me happy, somehow, that even after I’m out of this world, there are people out there who have copies of my creations, even though I’m not an artist who has had exhibitions, or shops who are retailing my art. I’m glad that at age 22 I’m able to share my creations with the world.

I thank all who’ve purchased from my shop and I hope my art touched you one way or another.

    Hi Janell
I got Disconcerting no.3 today and absolutely love it. I have just ordered the others on etsy. Do you still sell no.1 and also the fact and fiction one that is on here?

    Thanks Ali
