New York on Canvas

New York on CanvasI wanted to try stenciling on something other than paper and T-shirts, so I bought an A4 canvas from Art Friend to stencil on.

I’m a fan of skylines, especially New York’s, and made the stencil. Cutting out all the tiny windows with a penknife was very challenging, and I’m amazed at how I managed to without throwing the entire thing away in frustration. I think cutting itself took a few days.

I then painted it on the canvas – 3 layers of acrylic paint. First the gold backdrop, then the black and lastly the white.

Here’s a brief look at the process:

1. Paint entire canvas gold

2. Paint black using first stencil

3. Paint white through a second stencil
